We don’t all have the privilege of having a fireplace in our bedroom, but by imitating some of Mother Nature’s tricks we can easily cozy up our bedrooms this winter.
1. Warm glow
Light colour has a huge influence on our perception of temperature. Yellow light creates a warmer atmosphere, while white light can feel cold and clinical, so change the globes in your bedroom to “warm white” to create a warm ambience.
2. Paint a wall
Choose a feature wall and paint it a dark, warm colour or choose a wallpaper with texture and depth. Whether charcoal grey or brick red these colours all have a warming effect.
3. Light your own fire
Create your own “fire” with a collection of scented candles. Choose candles in heavy glass holders or beautiful stands with warm winter aromas of sandalwood, cinnamon and vanilla.
4. Get the feels with texture
Mother Nature if full of textures. Bring them into your bedroom in scatter cushions, upholstery, throws and carpets to create depth and ultimately, a cosy look and feel.
5. Snug in a rug
Insulate the floor around and under your bed with well chosen rugs and remember keep the colour neutral. A slightly higher pile in a bedroom works well. If your floors are carpet-free, a loose rug is the answer. Remember to get the size right; you should be able to walk comfortably around your bed on the rug.
6. Draw those curtains
Cold penetrates glass very quickly so create a barrier using block out lining on curtaining to keep the cold at bay. It also has the benefit of keeping out the light for a great afternoon snooze, but remember that just as they will keep out the cold, heavy curtains will also keep out the sun, so fling them open on those sunny days and let in the warm sunshine.
